Located in Greensboro, North Carolina, the Piedmont Triad International Airport, the new Marshall Aerospace civil aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul facility, needed enhanced fire protection to support its hangar facilities. SBS Tanks USA was commissioned to design, manufacture, and install a 49,000-gallon fire protection tank (Model ST11R04). This tank augmented the foam generation system, ensuring the hangar had reliable fire suppression measures in place to protect valuable assets. NFPA 22 compliant Fire Protection Tank
This project faced significant hurdles due to Hurricane Helene, which caused widespread devastation across the southeastern U.S. and delayed the installation process. Despite these weather-related setbacks, SBS Tanks displayed exceptional adaptability, responding immediately once conditions improved. The installation was completed swiftly in just 3.5 days, earning praise for the team’s efficiency, safety, and responsiveness.
The ST11R04 tank was specifically designed to meet NFPA 22 standards, essential for its fire protection application. A critical consideration during the planning phase was Greensboro’s cold climate. To prevent freezing, the tank was equipped with an immersion heater and a custom control system, ensuring consistent functionality in low temperatures.
Once the hurricane passed and the site was deemed ready, SBS Tanks USA mobilized a team of four installers and one supervisor. Despite the challenging site conditions caused by heavy rains, the team worked diligently to complete the installation within the tight timeframe. This project also marked a significant milestone for the North Carolina-based dealer, who demonstrated excellent performance during the training installation.
